Express yourself – Poems of several ICS students selected for King County shared spaces

ICS poets

Next time you ride the bus or light rail, you could see a poem written by a Lake Washington School District student. The poems of seven students from International Community School (ICS) were accepted in the 2024 Poetry in Public program.

The following students will be showcased on King County public transit, replacing advertising with the organization’s goal of enlivening commutes:

  • Jasmine Zhen, junior
  • Maxim Baryshnikov, junior
  • Ashwari Shende, junior
  • Kira Shen, seventh grader
  • Leonard Lannynd, junior
  • Armaan Mohapatra, junior
  • Sota Emura, junior

The program is run by 4Culture, the cultural funding agency for King County. According to its website, Poetry in Public celebrates local voices by featuring poems written by King County residents in shared spaces. This year’s theme, Places of Landing, embraces the poetry of our daily lives. It honors the movements, places and feelings that tell the stories of our days.

You can view the poetry by these students and others on the 4Culture website at https://www.4culture.org/poetry/
