BLAC (Building Leaders and Creators) is a paid, remote 12-week internship program, to bring more young Black people into advertising, ensuring they can fully express themselves, find community, and ultimately lead.

Built on three pillars: Education, Inspiration, and Experience, BLAC is like a 12-week version of an advertising school that not only offers paid training and job opportunities but also connects BLAC alumni with the growing, national BLAC community.

The Junior Health Scholar program allows high school students between the ages of 16-18 to shadow a current Health Scholar. Alongside their college student mentor, Junior Health Scholars observe how care delivery and administrative teams work together to deliver excellent care and explore whether a career in health care is right for them. The program is offered year-round at select sites in California, Washington and Hawaii. Most individuals complete the program in nine (9) months with a commitment of one 4-hour shift per week. For those looking to complete the program faster, we offer a 3-month option where you will receive priority shift selection.

• Decide if a career in health care is right for you and which profession is the best fit
• Learn about the career path for your future profession
• Develop relationships and receive mentoring opportunities from staff and Health Scholars
• Receive a completion certification from Keck Graduate Institute, a member of The Claremont Colleges upon graduation
• Receive preferred admission into the Health Scholar program

Junior Health Scholars are given the opportunity to observe care in various clinical environments. Some of these environments may have graphic content, including but not limited to: patient nudity, graphic skin conditions, open wounds, injuries due to weapons, patients in distress, and graphic language. Junior Health Scholars will have sufficient training in how to react to situations in which graphic content is present upon beginning his or her rotations. Guardians will be asked to sign off on a graphic consent form during enrollment. Additionally, Junior Health Scholars may only attend a shift alongside a college-age Health Scholar, ensuring they receive adequate support and mentorship in a live patient care setting.

All Scholars will have access to a 24/7 pager line to contact a COPE Health Solutions team member to report any incidents, injuries or concerns that result from their experiences in the program.

The Summer High School Internship Program (SHIP) is a competitive, eight-week, full-time paid internship for rising 12th graders. The program is specifically designed for students from backgrounds underrepresented in biomedical science. Selected interns attend an orientation day, then begin the internship with two weeks of hands-on training on laboratory safety techniques and skills in the Fred Hutch Training Labs.  For the remaining six weeks, interns are paired and immersed in mentored activities in a Fred Hutch research group in Seattle. Interns also participate in research seminars, attend professional development workshops focused on college and careers, and enjoy social activities with their teams and peers. The program culminates with intern presentations to the Fred Hutch community.

The 2023 program will run from Monday, June 26, through Friday, August 18. Students must be able to commit to the entire period to participate. Being a Park & Trail Ambassador means you take your volunteering to a whole new level, committing to serving 100 hours per year at a specific site. Tasks can vary based upon your interest and include everything from educating and assisting visitors to reporting on trail conditions to monitoring restoration efforts to clearing litter on park properties. Each Ambassador can play a different role, which can be worked out with the Volunteer Program Manager.

As a Park and Trail Ambassador, we ask you to:

Youth Ocean Advocates must be enrolled in grades 9–12 in a high school, Running Start or homeschool program at time of application.

We have a limited number of positions to fill each school year and summer. Potential Youth Ocean Advocates must attend one of our orientation sessions. After you attend the online orientation, you’ll receive an application to fill out and return to the Aquarium. From the applicant pool, we’ll select individuals to interview for the program.
