Music

This class is open to ICS students in grades 6, 7, and 8 who play woodwind, brass, or percussion instruments. As a prerequisite, students must have at least 1 - 2 years of experience playing their instrument in a school band and/or private lessons. 

This class takes place within the 6-period school day as a middle school elective; students may opt to take this class in place of their grade level elective. 

This class is open to ICS students in grades 6, 7, and 8 who play an orchestral string instrument (violin, viola, cello, or bass). As a prerequisite, students must have at least 1 - 2 years of experience playing their instrument in a school orchestra and/or private lessons. 

This class takes place within the 6-period school day as a middle school elective; students may opt to take this class in place of their grade level elective. 

This class is open to students in grades 6 through 12. No prior experience with singing is necessary to join.

This class takes place within the 6-period school day. Middle school students may take it as a middle school elective, meaning students may opt to take this class in place of their grade level elective. 

High school students may take this class to cover their Fine Arts credit requirements or as an elective.

This class is a combination of both band and orchestra students in grades 9 through 12. Students must have at least one year of experience on either a wind, percussion, or string instrument to join.

This class takes place during the 6-period school day. High schoolers may take this class to cover their Fine Arts credit requirements or as an elective.

This class is open to students in grades 6 through 12 who play wind instruments, drum set, piano, guitar, or bass. Students interested must pass an audition at the beginning of the school year in order to join. Students wanting to join who play wind instruments must also be members of their regular school music ensemble (MS Concert Band or HS Symphony Ensemble).

This class meets during zero period Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday before school starts.

Our ensembles include a wide age range of students. Many of our ensembles have intermediate to advanced players. Therefore, our repertoire and curriculum are not aimed at beginner level players. For this reason, experience is recommended in any of our instrumental ensembles. If your student would like to learn how to play an instrument, they can take private lessons outside of school and complete an audition for me after 6 months to see if they would be able to join us at the level of our ensembles. 

We have many piano players at ICS and unfortunately, we do not accept pianists into our Concert Band or Orchestras. However, we do accept pianists into our Jazz Band that meets before school. Pianists must complete an audition at the beginning of the year to be able to join. For more information regarding this ensemble, please click on the Jazz Band tab above.

Currently we cannot offer an instrument for every student to play on. We do have a limited number of larger sized instruments (double bass, cello, tuba, etc.) for use within school. Attaining a minimum set of instruments for all students to be able to use is something that we are working towards and will come with time as our program grows!

Students can keep their instruments on the Lyceum stage during the day, which is monitored by the music teacher. We do not have lockers for instruments currently because we share the Lyceum stage with other events and have limited space. Some instruments may be locked inside the music teacher's office/storage room as well.

All music classes are held on the Lyceum stage.

Yes, there is a registration fee of $35.

Unfortunately, the rules of these festivals mandate that each participant must be a member of their school music program.

Yes, each ensemble is worth 1 academic credit.
