Nadia Miranda, Spanish Teacher and Accredited DELE Examiner
DELE stands for Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera (Diplomas in Spanish as a Foreign Language). The Diplomas are issued by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture & Sports. They are the official certification of a person’s level of proficiency in Spanish at an international level.
The Instituto Cervantes a worldwide nonprofit organization created by the Spanish government in 1991 to promote the teaching of Spanish around the world and to spread Spanish culture, in co-operation with all Spanish-speaking countries. The Instituto Cervantes is hosted by the Division of Spanish and Portuguese Studies at the University of Washington in Seattle. http://seattle.cervantes.es/en/default.shtm
DELE examinations meet the Common European Framework of Reference of six levels. The levels range from A1 (Breakthrough) through C2 (Mastery). We are very happy to announce that starting this spring and after negotiations with the Instituto Cervantes, ICS is now a fully accredited examination center for DELE. ICS is the only school in the State of Washington to offer in-house DELE certification.
Why take the DELE?
- It is internationally recognized.
- It is recognized by corporations, chambers of commerce, private and public educational institutions.
- Enhances your résumé.
- Has indefinite validity.
On a voluntary basis, our Spanish students in Level 2 can take DELE A1, and students in Level 4 can take DELE A2. There will be no additional time or preparation required from the students to take DELE exams. It will only be necessary to come to school (or go to the UW) on a Saturday in May for a couple of hours to take the written part of the test. The material gets sent to Madrid, Spain to be graded. When taken at ICS, the oral part assessment be done mostly during regular school hours and administered by Profe Miranda (firstname.lastname@example.org), who is an accredited DELE examiner. Final results should be available about six weeks later.
We believe that these international diplomas will add measurable value to our students' résumés and show the commitment of providing high quality foreign language education at ICS. A total of fifty-five students enrolled this spring to take the DELE.
