ICS Information Night

Important Update for 2026-2027 School Year ICS Applications

Starting with the 2026–27 school year, existing waitlists will no longer be used for incoming 9th grade. You must submit a new application—even if they were previously on a waitlist. If your student is currently enrolled at ICS in any grade, there is NO need to re-apply to the lottery. Waitlists for all other grades will continue to roll over annually. For these grades, only students who have not previously applied and who have accepted placement at any choice school (regardless of current enrollment status) should apply this year.

2026-27 Choice School Lottery Dates

  • Application opens:  8 a.m., November 1, 2025
  • Application closes: 11:59 p.m. December 1, 2025
  • Lottery held: January 9, 2026
  • Notifications sent out: January 16, 2026
  • Acceptance due from families: January 30, 2026
*Applicants must live within LWSD attendance boundaries by the end of the lottery application window, and this will be verified by the district*

Choice Schools and programs are optional schooling alternatives, created to meet specific needs and interests.  They are designed to be smaller and use approaches to education that are different from traditional public schools.  Choice Schools and programs are often housed within an existing school or on the same campus as another school.

Enrollment and Lottery Process
Choice Schools and programs are open to all students in the district.  Students must apply to be considered for enrollment in the school or program: the schools are small by design, so there are enrollment limits. The lottery typically opens in November for enrollment in the following school year.

How to Learn More about International Community School

Thank you for your interest in International Community School. We are not a traditional middle school; we are a seven-year combined middle/high school. We have a fixed academic design with an emphasis on global citizenship, the connections between Art, Humanities, International Studies, and Spanish. Our seven-year relationship with students allows for unique methods in our Math and Science courses, focusing on deeper learning and global applications. Feeling connected to a group of peers and teachers for seven years creates a safe and intellectually challenging environment. All students can experience success at ICS, and we provide all levels of student support, including an array of social/emotional well-being programs. We believe our students’ emotional health is directly connected to their ability to learn, and we value understanding the needs of every student

All Lake Washington School District students entering 6th grade are welcome to apply and must do so by December 1, 2025. Priority is determined solely by a lottery system so that all who apply have an equal chance to attend. Those who are not chosen will be put on a waitlist. While the lottery is for incoming 6th graders, older students may apply also but will be admitted on a "space available" basis, from an existing waitlist. Furthermore, there is no guarantee of placements beyond 6th grade. Above is a list of dates relating to the student application procedure to ICS.

Names not selected will be placed on a waitlist and will be notified when a space opens. While waiting, students should enroll at their local middle or high school, as there is no way to determine if and when an opening will occur. All prospective ICS families must follow and complete the application process and adhere to all dates and timelines.
